safety. For the second year running the University has won a Gold
Medal award from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents.
David Rawlins, RoSPA Awards Manager, said: "Bath Spa University has
shown a commitment to protecting the health and well-being of its
employees and others. Entering the RoSPA Awards reinforces the message
that good health and safety is good for business and clearly
demonstrates an organisation's dedication to improving performance in
this crucial area."
Warren Cole, Bath Spa University's Health, Safety and Environment
Adviser, said: "We are delighted to have been awarded the RoSPA Gold
Medal for the second successive year. The award again recognizes the
success of our initiatives in reducing the number of accidents and
cases of ill-health in the University, and the effectiveness of our
safety management systems.
"We are committed to continually improving the safety culture of the
University. The Gold Medal offers reassurance that we are maintaining
the high standards that we have set ourselves."
According to RoSPA, its awards are not just about reducing the number
of accidents and cases of ill-health at work. They also help to ensure
that organisations have good health and safety management systems in
place.
RoSPA points out that in the current economic climate safety awards
are more important than ever because they demonstrate that employers
care about their employees and will not let slip their standards of
health and safety practice even if times are tough.
Bath Spa University will receive its Gold Medal award during a
ceremony at the Birmingham Hilton Metropole Hotel, at the National
Exhibition Centre, on 14 May.
